U is about the pan, not a fault
Induction heating only works with a pan that suits it. If the zone has no pan, or one that is not suited to induction, power cannot be increased and U appears on the display.
Hobs concerned
The Château induction hob module of the G4 series (Château 90, 120 and 150) and the induction ranges in the same guide.
Clearing the symbol
- Put a suitable pan on the zone and U goes out.
- Lifting a pan off a running zone stops the operation and brings up U. Setting the pan back clears it, and cooking continues at the earlier power level.
- When you finish, turn the zone off with its control rather than leaving pan detection with U active.
Choosing a pan
Recommended: ferromagnetic pans, meaning cast iron, steel, enamelled pans and stainless steel with a magnetic bottom. A small magnet will show whether a pan qualifies.
Excluded: copper, pure stainless steel, aluminium, glass, wood, ceramic and stoneware.
Size: a pan whose diameter is too small for the heating zone will not work. The zone adapts automatically to the pan size.
Related codes
- E reports an electronic failure, which U does not.
- U400 stays on the display after an incorrect connection.
- Er with a number is an internal fault.
