A 65-inch Château top set into your counter, diagnosed before anything is replaced.
The Château 165 cooktop is a 65-inch Château G4 module. It brings the look of the Château cooking surface to kitchens that keep their ovens elsewhere, in a wall stack or a separate cavity, so the cooktop is set into the counter and the ovens are somebody else’s problem.
That setup creates a different service situation from a free-standing range. Everything we need to reach lies under the counter: the supply connection, the valves, and the wiring for the ignition. In many Bay Area kitchens that space holds deep drawers, a pull-out or a pot rack, and clearing it is part of the visit. Tell us beforehand what sits below the top.
Spilled sauce is the usual culprit for the last item, and cleaning a cap is an owner step. Let everything cool, wipe it gently, and dry it completely before placing it back. A cap that is wet or knocked sideways keeps flame from catching.
A technician follows the gas path from the supply to each valve, then checks each igniter and its wiring, and finally the flame-safety parts that decide whether a burner stays on. A cooktop is also affected by the hood above it. If grease has built up in the hood or the duct, warm moist air can drift back down over the surface, so we notice the state of the ventilation too.
The range version of this size is the Château 165 range. For a full overview, see the La Cornue rangetops guide, and to book a visit open La Cornue rangetop repair. You will get a written estimate after diagnosis and nothing is repaired without your approval.
Not harder, but different. The work is under the counter, so cabinet layout decides how easy access is.
From the plate on the unit. It gives us the complete model and serial.
Make sure its cap and head are seated and dry and that the gas shut-off is open. If it still fails, leave the rest to a technician.
If the hood has a weak draw or smells greasy, it is worth mentioning. We can look at it when we are already in your kitchen.
