La Cornue Induction Cooktops

Induction zones that go dark, refuse a pan or show a code: a guide for Château and CornuFé owners.

At a glance

Overview

An induction cooktop heats the pan directly using a coil under the glass. When it fails, the glass itself usually looks perfect, which is why the display is the first clue. This guide covers where La Cornue’s induction cooktops appear, the messages we can explain and the checks that take less than a minute.

Where induction appears in the lineup

Induction modules are part of the Château G4 series, including the Château 90, 120 and 150 and the induction ranges. They also appear in the CornuFé family, where the CornuFé 110 is offered as gas or induction and the CornuFé 90 as gas, dual fuel or induction. Pages for individual models are listed in models. If your cooktop is part of a full range, see also La Cornue ranges.

The five display messages

These are the only messages we explain, based on the guides we hold. Please read exactly what the display shows.

DisplayWhat it meansPage
EElectronic failureE code
E2Electronic unit too hot; also possible if a pan boiled dryE2 code
Er + numberInternal technical fault the user cannot rectifyEr code

For anything else on the display, do not look for a reset online. Note the message and book a visit. Our overview of induction error codes adds context.

Zone-by-zone complaints

A zone does not heat

Before suspecting the module, think about the pan. Induction requires a magnetic base that sits flat and covers enough of the zone. A technician checks the coil, the power electronics and the control, and also the cooling fan that keeps the electronics from overheating. Read induction zone not heating.

The cooktop does not see the pan

That is the U message, and it can be as simple as a warped pan or one with an unsuitable base. If different known-good pans fail in the same zone, the sensing is a question for a technician. See induction pan not detected.

Shutting off mid-cooking

An induction surface may protect itself when it gets too hot, which can happen with poor ventilation under the module or a pan that boiled dry. If it keeps happening, see induction cooktop shuts off.

Installation matters here

Induction needs a dedicated electrical circuit and proper clearance underneath for ventilation. In remodel work the circuit may have been added by a contractor and wired differently from what the module expects, which is exactly the situation the U400 message points to. A drawer or cabinet fitted too close underneath can also change how the electronics cool.

Checks you can do

  • Try a different flat-bottomed magnetic pan, centered on the zone.
  • Make sure the zone and glass are dry and clear of utensils.
  • Check the breaker, and leave one controlled power reset to the end.
  • Photograph the display and the model plate, which is usually under the front edge of the cooktop or behind a lower door or drawer.

Do not open the module or test the wiring. If you notice a burning smell, sparks or a cracked glass surface, switch it off at the breaker and stop using it.
