A guide to the Château and CornuFé ranges we repair across San Francisco and the Bay Area, and how to prepare for a visit.
A La Cornue range is rarely just an appliance. In most Bay Area kitchens it is the thing the room was designed around: set between custom cabinetry in a Pacific Heights remodel, anchored on a reinforced base in a Marin hillside house, or sitting under a matching hood in a Napa estate. This guide covers the ranges we diagnose and repair, how to tell them apart, and what to look at before you ask for a visit.
The Château line is built on the G4 platform and is named by width. The range models on our list are the Château Grand Palais 180 (70 7/8″), Château 165 (65″), Château 150 (59″), Château 150 WD (59″), Château 135 WD (53 1/8″), Château 120 (47 1/4″), Château 120 WD (47 1/4″), Château 90 (35 1/2″) and Château 75 (29 1/2″). The number in the name is the width in centimetres, which is why two ranges with different names can be close in size on a plan.
CornuFé is the second family. The CornuFé 110 (43″) is offered as gas or induction. The CornuFé 90, which is also associated with the Albertine name, comes as gas, dual fuel or induction, and its gas versions are sold under the codes C9NF, C9NN, C9WF, C9WN and C9MF. Older and broader series, namely Château, Château Moderne, Château Suprême and Château Tourelle, are also part of what owners bring to us, and each has its own page for general series questions.
Parts and procedures are specific to the exact range, so the full model and serial plate is the most useful thing you can send. It is usually found on the frame behind the oven door, behind a lower door or drawer, or along the front edge of the cooktop section. If the range sits between cabinets and cannot be pulled out, photograph whatever label you can reach and note the width and fuel type. Our guide on how to find a La Cornue model number walks through the usual hiding places.
Ranges produce a fairly predictable set of complaints, and the wording you use on the phone helps us prepare.
A symptom alone does not name the part. A burner that clicks without lighting may have a wet cap, a weak spark, a blocked port or a supply problem, and the diagnosis is what separates them.
Induction versions can show short display messages. The ones we have verified are E, E2, Er followed by a number, U and U400, each with its own page under error codes. Please write down exactly what the display shows and whether a pan was on the zone. We do not publish any other codes or reset sequences for these ranges.
From the outside, you can confirm that the breaker is on, that the gas shut-off valve is open, that burner caps and heads are seated and dry, and that the oven door closes fully. On induction, check that the pan is suitable and centered. One controlled power reset at the breaker is reasonable if nothing smells or looks wrong. Please do not open panels, touch gas fittings or run a range that is behaving oddly.
If you smell gas, leave the house, avoid switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. If you notice a burning smell or sparks, turn the range off at the breaker.
When the checks do not solve it, request a visit through La Cornue range repair. We diagnose first, give you a written estimate, and nothing is repaired until you approve it. Have the model and serial plate, a short description of what happens and what you have already tried. If the problem is only on the cooktop section, La Cornue rangetops may be the closer match, and for the oven cavity see La Cornue ovens.
Usually on the frame behind the oven door, behind a lower door or drawer, or under the front edge of the cooktop. A clear photo of the full plate is the most helpful thing to send.
It is the width of the range in centimetres, for example the Château 150 is 59 inches wide. The size is listed on each model page.
Yes. Our list covers the Château G4 sizes from 75 to 180, the CornuFé 110, the CornuFé 90 and its gas codes C9NF, C9NN, C9WF, C9WN and C9MF.
Not for diagnosis. Many La Cornue ranges are installed that way. Tell us about the base, the gas and electrical supply and how much room there is around the range when you book.
Leave the house without touching switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not use the range until it has been checked.
